It was a wild ride at Daytona for Austin Dillon and I'm happy to see that he made it out alive and well. I don't think I'll never understand restrictor plate racing, but I cannot argue against the fact that it produces some spectacular wrecks. Dale Jr. dominated the race... he had a couple of challengers, but no one could match his restarts. A green, white, checker was a simple game for Jr. and the carnage that followed the black and white flag was just for show and mostly pointless when you really think about it. Maybe a few people in the stands settle out of court for a few bucks for their thankfully minor injuries, so there's that...
TOP PICKS:
Anyway, Kiss, Piston, Asleep, Chonk and Pursuit took Jr and get big wins. I knew he was good, but with the qualifying being rained out it was hard to tell how good he would be at the green flag. Kiss now has 4 wins and jumps up 2 spots to 6th. Piston (8th) gets their 2nd win and jump back into Club Ocho Primo. Asleep get a huge 3rd win while moving up a spot to 11th. Chonk (13th) gets a much needed 1st win while Pursuit (14th) gets win #2 while increasing his odds to make the Chase. Congratulations guys!!!
Our 2nd (Skidmarks) and 3rd (Rusty) place teams took Austin Dillon's wild ride to a 7th place finish. They hold their position but inch ever closer to the top spot.
Beef (4th), Dust (+1 to 5th), and Penguin (10th) took 10th place finisher Bowyer. As hard as I am on Bowyer, I actually thought he may pull this thing off... I obviously had no idea that Jr. would be so strong.
EH...:
Shepard took 14th place Tony Stewart and drops a spot to 11th and is 32 points away from 8th with 1 win.
Empty and Ideal took 15th place finisher McMurray. Empty stays in 1st but loses a little of his buffer between he a Skidmarks. Ideal drops 2 spots to 7th.
DOOTW/BSOTW:
Graziano took 20th place finisher Biffle. Not a bad DOOTW or BSOTW finish, but this pick does drop Graz and his 2 wins 2 spots to 9th and is now 3 points out of Club Ocho Primo.
Other Ramblings:
Saturday night race in Kentucky this week.
Only 9 races to go before the Chase... so everyone better get their shit together. Whether you're locked in and going for Bonus points, or in the top 8 and trying to hang on, or on the outside looking in with a few points to make up to get in or a win or 2 away from locking in... all better be paying attention to your picks in the races coming up.
Good luck to all as we near the Chase!
Cheers!
